Edward J. Sullivan, known to all as "Eddie" or "Sully," is a long time resident of Cambridge. Eddie grew up on Ellery Street and attended Cambridge Rindge and Latin. In high school he excelled in football and basketball; playing on the same team as Patrick Ewing that won the state championship in 1980. Eddie graduated CRLS and accepted a scholarship to play football at the University of Iowa. After two years of playing in the Big 10, including appearances in the Rose Bowl and the Peach Bowl, Eddie decided to return to New England and finished his college career at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Eddie continued his college football career as a Minuteman while earning a degree in Sports Management.
After college, Eddie worked for Poland Springs. He started out as a route salesman and worked his way up the corporation to eventually become Northeast Regional Manager. During this time he also held the position of Middlesex County Commissioner where he helped oversee the dissolution of county government.
Two years ago, Eddie chose to strike out on his own and partnered with a colleague to start up an environmentally safe cleaning supply company, Clean & Safe, of which he is now the Vice President. His motivation was to help corporations and state organizations minimize and reduce the ecological damage caused by the supplies they use on a day to day basis.
In addition to the success that he has enjoyed with his new business endeavor, Eddie is also the proud parent of two children, Clare, 15, and Eddie, 14. Being a father of teenagers, Eddie understands the importance of providing positive youth opportunities such as sports leagues and after-school programs as an effective means of keeping young people safe, focused and instilled with self confidence. As City Councilor, Eddie will make a deep commitment to the youth programs throughout Cambridge to ensure that our children are given every opportunity to succeed.
Eddie values strong sensible leadership and a tradition of service to the people. The Sullivan family has a legacy on the City Council that began with Eddie's grandfather in 1936 and includes his uncles, Edward and Walter, and most recently his cousin, Michael, for the past fourteen years. As City Councilor, Eddie will continue the tradition of "Sullivan Service" and strive to provide a high quality of life for the children, seniors and families of Cambridge.
